Senna and Derani are picked by McLaren for the 24 hours entry in the third Spa event.
Bruno Senna and Pipo Derani are two Brazilians who would be racing with the additional squad that has been added by McLaren. It is the Garage 59 squad that has been added to 24 Hours Spa event for this month. They would be driving a third vehicle 650S GT3 that is being put together by the in house team of McLaren. This is being done with Duncan Tappy. These changes were put together in the Blancpain GT series that was hosted in the last weekend of July 2016.
The third car is being lined up besides the regular entries that are made as per BGTS Endurance Cup. These included names like Come Ledogar, Shane van Gisbergen, Rob Bell as well as junior drivers like Andrew Watson, Struan Moore and Alex Fontana.
The GT boss at McLaren, Andrew Kirkaldy stated that the third car was introduced as the team wanted to increase their chances of being part of the BGTS event that is of the blue riband category. He stated that Spa has been elusive for them in the past. They are serious about increasing their chances of winning it.
The last season had provided them the right opportunity as they had the right pace for getting a win. However, with two accidents that occurred, they realized that they needed to have a third car available. That is why this time the provision has been made accordingly. Senna has been chosen as he is under contract with McLaren. He contested in four of the Endurance series that were hosted last year by Blancpain.
Kirkaldy explained that it was not possible to make him part of a full race program as he has commitments that World Endurance Championship as well as Formula E.
