ALONSO TO BEGIN FINAL RACE FROM NINTH POSITION

After taking ninth on the grid to qualify for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix holding at Dusk in Sunday this weekend, Fernando Alonso believes that the McLaren Honda formula 1 Team could be happy enough with the outcome.

Considering the conditions and challenges faced, Alonso is also of the belief that the ninth position was the best possible outcome he could get on the Yas Marina Circuit in the session especially after he had headed out with a set-up he never knew he was going to work.

The Spaniard is also of the belief that the team has showed a competitive pace all through the qualifying session and sees more reason why the team should be happy,

“I think we have to be happy today: it was definitely a good qualify for us,” Alonso began.

“The conditions are always difficult here, because you practice in hot conditions, then head into qualifying when the track conditions are much cooler.

“That means you need to anticipate what’s going to happen, and make set-up changes a little blindly as you don’t really know how the conditions are going to change.

Alonso also has hopes of finishing the year on a high at the final race on Sunday this weekend and really looks forward to enjoying the race before the beginning of the winter break.

Speaking about the championship, Alonso noted that behind them, they have no much threats and they might find it quite hard to finish higher than their current position, so there is the need to enjoy the race and score some good points, thus finishing on a high.

At the final race, Alonso would be starting at the ninth position on the grid and may hopefully be able to maintain that position or even get something better at the end of the race.
